Yan Hui – Founder, CEO
Yan has extensive experience in leading engineering development, managing R&D organization and budgets, and working with business development, and marketing teams. He established and managed 3G advanced R&D group at TI to successfuly develop core system IPs for 3G UMTS products, including UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA. He has led the technical team in developing industry’s first 1xEV-DV UE systems by working with partners. He has been responsible for both project execution and interactions with customers and partners including a key role in partnership for major 3G customers. He also chaired company wide wireless system patent committee and led TI 3G standard activities for a number of years. He also held various management and engineering positions at Nortel and Dot Wireless, He has more than 20 patent granted or pending, and a number of IEEE publications.
Yan has earned a BS degree from Tianjin University, China and a MSEE degree from University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Mike Iandolo – Senior Advisor
Mike has more than 20 years’ experience leading high technology businesses, currently as general manager and vice president of Juniper Networks’ Mobile Business Unit and prior, as President, Wireless Networks Division at Alcatel-Lucent, a global telecommunications equipment company. Prior to that, Mike held various product management and general management positions within Alcatel-Lucent and Lucent Technologies, leading key wireless businesses including CDMA, WCDMA, and AirLoop, a proprietary fixed wireless product. From 2000 through 2008 Mike directed the CDMA business where he led the successful launch of more than 100 new products and the introduction of significant technology generations including 3G1X voice and packet data and EV/DO high speed data. During this period of time, Mike grew the CDMA business to the number 1 market position within the industry.
Mike served on the board for the CTIA foundation and currently serves on several advisory boards.
Perry LaForge – Board Member
Perry founded the CDMA Development Group (CDG) in 1993 and is its Executive Director. The CDG is a trade association comprised of over 100 of the world’s leading wireless operators and manufacturers. Perry has led the development and worldwide commercialization of CDMA since the first proof of concept trials in 1988. He was instrumental in the introduction of CDMA, helping to secure initial funding, developing new markets and manufacturers’ support, securing standardization and ultimately leading the evolution of CDMA as a next generation digital technology. CDG is currently a Market Representation Partner (MRP) of 3GPP2 and 3GPP.
Perry is also the Executive Chairman of the Device Renewal Forum, formed in 2012 to establish standards for testing and certifying refurbished devices.
Perry was the founder of inCode Telecom Group (sold to Verisign) and co-founder of Kodiak Networks, an innovative voice platform for GSM and CDMA operators, and a seed investor and advisor/board member in FiberTower (ticker symbol FTWR), Danger (sold to Microsoft); Signalsoft (sold to Openwave), Bitfone (sold to HP) and WiChorus (sold to Tellabs). He currently sits on several director and advisory boards.
He retired from the management consulting firm of Pittiglio Rabin Todd & McGrath (now PWC’s PRTM Management Consulting) after 18 years, where he was managing partner of its telecom practice. While at PRTM, Perry oversaw the company’s growth from twenty to over four hundred employees and led the firm’s expansion into various domestic and international markets.
With more than 30 years of working with high-tech companies, he is known for growing companies, building global business partnerships and being a driving force behind the worldwide expansion of wireless communications. He is a guest columnist for a number of publications and has appeared on a variety of broadcast interviews about the wireless industry.
Perry graduated from the University of Santa Clara with a bachelor’s of Engineering degree (magna cum laude) and was awarded a master’s of Business degree (MBA) from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
John McDonough – Board Member
John is founder and CEO of Shorthand Mobile, a privately held mobile application company providing the first “SMS browser”. He is also a venture partner with iSherpa Capital, a Venture Capital Fund which invests in seed-stage and early-stage companies, with a focus on the Wireless sector and supporting technologies. John has over 20 years of experience in the wireless industry where he has held both operational and strategic roles. Prior joining iSherpa, John was GM of the CDMA Chipset Business Unit of Texas Instrument and was also Distinguished Member of the Technical staff and directed the development of TI’s first WCDMA baseband modem. John joined TI as a result of their $475M acquisition of Dot Wireless in 2000, which John co-founded and was Vice President of Engineering and a member of the board of directors. Prior to Dot Wireless, John was Director of Engineering at NextWave Telecom where he was responsible for CDMA subscriber chipset development and Engineering Manager at QUALCOMM, Inc. where he led the development of QUALCOMM’s proprietary DSP solutions.
In addition to being an investor and advisor for AirHop Communications, John has served on the advsory board for a number of companies including Orca Radio Systems (RFIC design) and TensorComm, Inc. (wireless technology). John holds a Master of Engineering from Harvey Mudd College, has completed the Executive Program at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and currently named inventor on 24 issued and 21 pending patents in the area of wireless communications and systems.
Adrian R. Nemcek – Board Member
Adrian is a luminary of the wireless industry with a stellar career that has spanned 36 years. Most recently, Adrian was President of the Motorola Networks business from January 2005 until his retirement in March 2006. Adrian expanded the scope of the Motorola Networks business to provide cellular radio access, IP networks, telco wireline access, WiMAX wireless access platforms, embedded communications and computer platforms, as well as providing customers with a services and applications management business focused in these areas. Prior to heading the Networks business, from August 2002 to December 2004, he served as Executive Vice President and led global sales and strategy functions for the Motorola Cellular Networks business following five years in Europe leading the GSM Systems business. Adrian’s experience spans both the cellular and Private Mobile Radio (PMR) markets. He has successfully led product development for several generations of handheld and infrastructure communications products. Adrian ’s leadership spanned new technology development, supply chain, marketing and worldwide business line management. He currently serves on the HP Communications, Multi-Media and Entertainment Board of Advisors, the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Board of Trustees, and the Auburn University Wireless Board of Advisors. He served as a Director of Ip Unity Corp. and Movius Interactive Corporation. Adrian R. Nemcek holds a Bachelor Of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Loyola University of Chicago.
Hanson On – Founder, Vice President of Engineering
Hanson has extensive experience in project execution including leading product development, managing projects, working with customers and building engineering teams. He led advanced R&D team to deliver UMTS HSUPA modem co-processor at Texas Instruments 3G R&D center. In addition, he was a modem architect working with customers to define next generation modem architecture. He led system integration team to work with customers on delivering CDMA2000 products. At Sierra Wireless/AirPrime, he led engineering team to deliver CDMA2000 modules for Palm/Handspring Treo300 and Treo600. At Dot Wireless, he was responsible for CDMA2000 chipset SW design and development. At General Instrument, he and colleagues invented statistic multiplexing algorithms for HD TV uplink satellite transponders. He also held various engineering positions at 3COM/US Robotics.
John St. Amand – Senior Advisor
St. Amand is currently CEO of Movik Networks following his tenure as a Venture Partner with Highland Capital Partners where he specialized in working with companies focused on mobile technologies. Prior to Highland, he was President of Alcatel-Lucent Multi-Core Networks (a $2 billion business that encompassed worldwide, core voice and data network elements), and President of Lucent Technologies’ Converged Core Networks (until the merger with Alcatel). Prior, he was the Founder and CEO of Telica (acquired by Lucent in 2004 for $330 million).
St. Amand holds a MSEE from Northeastern University and a BSEE from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
